She had already enlisted the support of students and friends at Bikram Yoga.
So class 1 began. During the day she was joined by 83 student's , who practiced along side her, completing 1, 2 or 3 classes. Not easy in 110 degrees! So far she has raised £1700 . Rachel said "6 hours of yoga was physically and mentally exhausting, but the support of the students and their generousity and knowing tht this would pay for the Rickshaw made the sweat and suffering more bearable"
Mandy Jarvis and Carol Edwards , owners of QR60 on Queens Road, Leicester, which sells shoes and bags with an enviromental ethos are also suppoerting the project. In addition they have donated 20 pairs of shoes for Rachel to tale to people who live in a slum project in Mumbai.
Mandy say's " We are really excited to be supporting this exciting project, as it very much fits in with the ethos of our business. As a local shop it gives us an opportunity to contribute something positive back. It's something that we would like to continue on an ongoing basis." qr60@aol.co.uk
Rachel has now returned to Hampi, and delivered the Rickshaw and shoes. Complete with a sign saying "with love from Leicester" containing all the names of those who donated. After a blessing at the local Temple she was given the honour of driving their 1st customer. |
